The last couple of weeks have been pretty busy despite my being out of work and supposedly having nothing to do. Selling a business is pretty hard work. There are papers to sign, bills to be paid, accounts to close, etc. Now that we have most of the loose ends tied up, I just want to purge myself of all the paperwork and files, which still takes some time.
This brings me back to cleaning out one closet or drawer a day thank goodness. I actually missed the feeling of elation I get from loosing myself of unneeded and unused junk. Today, I picked the office files. Taking all my old business files out and restructuring my office by moving all other files to one file cabinet. I got one drawer finished in two hours. Yikes! So, I decided not to post a photo to keep me from becoming embarrassed. It's the worse room in the house. All I can say, is when we finally finish it, I will post a photo. Not fair I know, but you will just have to imagine the heaps of paperwork and office disarray.
Happy cleaning!

Day 3 ~ Kitchen drawers
No photos today, however, this task wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Gross! I cannot believe how much stuff is in the bottom of the flatware drawers. Today, I tackled 4 drawers. I got rid of a lot more than I thought I would and, I put some kitchen things in the big bottom drawer where the bread drawer would normally be. It's great how much room I have now and can find things so much easier. It looks so nice too. I feel like when I ma finally finished with all of this I will feel lighter. I already do.
It's funny how little we really need when it comes to kitchen gadgets. In looking around the rest of the kitchen, I am asking myself why I need a bread maker when I love to make bread without one. Kneading the bread is half the fun of actually making it. So, who wants to buy a bread machine?

Day 2 ~ From overflowing to "Wow, now we can close it!"

From what I hear everyone has a junk drawer. Mine is in my kitchen, and had gotten to the point of overflowing. I was really terrified at what I might find in there,(dried up gum, melted chocolate, etc.) none of which I found. Thanks goodness the worst was a package of Nasturtiums that had busted open and gone all over the bottom of the drawer. I threw away everything that was useless and kept batteries, birthday candles, some citronella incense sticks and some batteries. As you can see from the before and after photos, it looks much better. This is actually cleansing, and I even talked the hubby into helping me. The finding of some tiny light bulbs that were missing gave him some motivation to fix our closet lighting. Productive stuff, this closet cleaning!

Today I begin my journey of purging, cleaning and organizing. I'm absolutely sick of looking at my disorganized closets, junk that I will never use or need, and just generally have made up my mind that less is better. I felt overwhelmed by the idea at first, but then I thought maybe the only way to do this is one closet per day.
I started today with my kitchen cabinets. There is so much stuff I don't use. Why did I buy that? Oh well.... I will use it. That leads me to find recipes to go with all the rice, flour, and the huge amount of spices I have accumulated. Sounds like potlucks are in the making here.
If you would like to join me, please do. I would love to have some company, and see where it leads. It doesn't have to be a whole closet. It can be a shelf, drawer, or a closet. Let's just pick one and do it. I spent an hour on this one. One hour out of my day is nothing. There was a lot of trash however. I wonder how many days out of my year this will take?
